About the Event

This PBL Lab is by and for the people of Kirkland! Join an inspired learning community of secondary teachers, student leaders, community champions, city sustainability staff, and city council members to identify the systemic relationships between climate science, climate solutions, and climate justice using the City of Kirkland's Sustainability Strategic Plan as a “Living Textbook” for problem-based, place-based learning across the curriculum. Students design impact projects that advance the city’s GHG reduction goals. Teachers design or refine instructional pathways that align academic rigor with community relevance across the curriculum including Green STEM, CTE, Social Studies, and Common Core. Teachers can mix and match selected entry points and lesson ideas to support a range of classroom applications. The Lab will be facilitated as a hybrid learning experience. Virtual learning in the morning will focus on content knowledge, lesson review, student-led impact project design, real-world resource curation, and PBL instructional strategies. In-person…
